Description

The islands of the Pertuis Charentais—Ré and Oléron—were part of the “Atlantic Wall” military defense system

conceived by the Germans during World War II to counter a

possible Allied landing from the west.

Many of these remnants are still visible today, particularly along the Chemin d’Oléron,

even though erosion and climate change pose a serious threat to them.

The location of part of the Saint-Denis battery, which is incorporated into the municipal campground, has

allowed it to remain relatively well-preserved. The structures located on the beach were not so

fortunate, which is why we invite you to explore this still well-conserved complex through a guided tour.

(Maximum 30 people per tour—meet in front of the entrance to the Saint-Denis d’Oléron municipal campground).

Reservations by phone at 05 46 47 24 68 or via the online forms.
