National Local Retail Day
Dates & opening times
Description
From Marennes to Brouage, this event will celebrate local merchants and artisans through activities centered on discovery, community, and supporting local businesses.
The events will begin in the morning in downtown Marennes, before continuing in the afternoon in Brouage.
This event is part of the city’s effort to boost the appeal of its town centers and encourage people to visit local shops and support local craftsmanship.
For this year’s event, Marennes Commerces is organizing a big scavenger hunt. The idea is to explore the participating shops, get your scavenger hunt card stamped, and try your luck at winning one of many prizes.
It’s a fun way to step inside the shops, chat with shopkeepers and artisans, and learn about their businesses—all while entering a raffle.
In Marennes, in the morning at the market:
Market: local and seasonal products
Elected officials’ booth: meet with residents, survey, distribution of the “Marennes Commerces Rally” kit, tastings provided by City Hall (market produce)
Starting at 10:00 a.m.: Stroll by the town crier
Starting at 11:30 a.m.: Town crier finale
In Brouage, Place d’Aviaux, in the afternoon:
2:30 p.m.: Free tour offered by the tourist office to meet local artisans—Reservations required at 05 46 85 19 16
Starting at 3:30 p.m.: The town crier puts on a show
Open meet-and-greet with elected officials, shopkeepers, and artisans
Stamped entry forms should be turned in to a participating merchant in the Marennes Commerces association, who will conduct the drawing in the coming days.
Drop the words to be read by the town crier into the box located at the Marennes and Brouage tourist offices, as well as at the market.
The full program for the day, including the scavenger hunt, is available at the Marennes Town Hall, the Hiers Town Hall, and the Marennes and Brouage tourist offices.
