Exhibition by Mokuhanga Sophie Petitpré

Description

As a continuation of the exhibition presented in 2023 at La Rabale, I'd like to present a series of Mokuhanga prints on the theme of the leash of the sea and the coastal landscape. These prints will be accompanied by drawings, watercolors and sweepings, the fruit of my exploration of the shoreline from l'Ecuissière to Maumusson since I've been living in Grand Village. My artistic path consists in inhabiting landscapes. What are they made of? What defines them? What are they about? How can I show the little, the almost nothing that amazes or questions me as I pass by? What can I share? The representation of this incessant exploration takes many forms, all of which speak of time and place. The presentation LAISSE DE MER SAISON 2 bears witness to the looping path I have travelled between the shore and the studio over the past three years. I chose the practice of mokuhanga (woodcut printed with watercolor in the Japanese tradition) as a way of purifying the motif, also allowing for a naturalistic and documentary approach. Slowness and care are my indispensable guides.
