Descriptif

The Pointe de Chassiron, at the northern tip of the island of Oleron, is well known for its lighthouse, which guides boats out to sea and helps them pass through the Pertuis d'Antioche.

The natural setting here is exceptional. A walk along the Chassiron cliffs is a great way to appreciate this listed site for its flora and fauna.

As landslides are frequent, great care must be taken, and it is recommended not to stand too close to the edge of the cliff.

Near the lighthouse, note the Cross of the Sailors, made from a ship's chain. The cross commemorates the victims of the shipwrecks that occurred off the headland, as the Antioch Rock was particularly dangerous for shipping.

At low tide, you can fish on foot.
