Description

Les Vignerons d'Oléron is located in the heart of the Ile d'Oléron, in western France not far from Rochefort. The offices and store are in Saint-Pierre d'Oléron, and the distillery and ageing cellars in Saint-Georges d'Oléron. They produce Charentais "Ile d'Oléron" vins de pays, Pineau des Charentes and Cognac.

The Cave Coopérative des Vignerons d'Oléron groups together some twenty winegrowers and producers on the Ile d'Oléron. They cultivate vines spread across the entire territory. This diverse range of terroirs is an undeniable asset for the production of authentic wines and spirits. The diversity of their production demands great expertise from their winemakers and their teams.

Their vineyards are run by men and women whose average age is around 42, which is relatively young and offers good prospects for development. The winegrowers are statutorily committed to 100% of their harvest.

The vineyard committed to the cooperative represents 320 ha (around 50% of Oleron's vineyard):

- 220 ha dedicated to Cognac and Pineau des Charentes (Ugni Blanc and Colombard grape varieties),

- 25 ha planted with Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes for white vins de pays,

- 75 ha of red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) for red vins de pays and red Pineau.

They produce between 4,000 and 5,000 hl of "Île d'Oléron" Vin de Pays Charentais. All these volumes are sold in bottles (or bag-in-box). Depending on the harvest, between 2000 hl and 2500 hl of Pineau des Charentes are produced and sold entirely in bottles.

Depending on the harvest, the winery also produces between 1500 hl and 2000 hl of pure Cognac alcohol. These volumes of Cognac are sold to the trade, and some is bottled under our Boyard and Louis Pearl brands (atypical 100% Ile d'Oléron cognacs).

As for their distillery, it's unique: it's one of the largest in Charente-Maritime.

It boasts 8 spectacular 25-hectoliter stills. It's thanks to the distiller's know-how that the best eaux-de-vie are created. He selects and cuts the tails and heads, retaining only the toasting heart to produce top-quality Cognacs.

Last but not least, they boast an impressive eau-de-vie ageing cellar. It's with wonder that they invite you to discover this treasure trove: 400,000 liters of Cognac mature in oak barrels and casks. Cognac is a living product; during aging in oak barrels, the eau-de-vie is in constant contact with air. This allows the wood to extract the substances that give it its final color and bouquet. The cellar master can then use his talent to blend these different eaux-de-vie to create Cognacs that are characteristic of our distinctive terroir.
