Inside the sports center, Fort Panorama offers an exceptional view of the coastline, facing Fort Boyard. Mr. Lafon, a historian specializing in the island of Oleron, brings to life the Napoleonic era and the ambitious project of the Emperor, an envious admirer of Vauban's military architecture.
Philippe Lafon recounts the genesis of these forts, designed to block access to the harbor of Ile d'Aix from the Pertuis d'Antioche and prevent any invasion of this strategic inlet by "perfidious Albion". The belvedere provides a magical backdrop to this heroic evocation of battles and glory.
The climb up to Fort Panorama impresses with its lofty views, then the Fort des Saumonards, now privately owned, invites visitors into the forest of the same name. But it's the story of the construction of Fort Boyard that arouses the greatest enthusiasm in children and their families every time.
