Descriptif

As you stroll along Rue de la République, the main shopping street in Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, discover traditional housing concentrated in beautiful cul-de-sacs, the impasses des lauriers, des roses...

Here, the houses are small and low, covered in whitewash, sometimes grouped around a communal well, with winding alleyways to keep the wind at bay.

These houses, so characteristic of the heart of the village, hark back to a time when the village lived simply from the salt harvest in the marshes, vine plantations and onion cultivation.

Their narrow stone dwellings were of great simplicity: a single room, sometimes with an attic upstairs, and a wooden door with wide vertical slats.
