After 15 years of research, Laurent Delenne has been able to reconstruct the destinies of around a hundred ordinary soldiers and non-commissioned officers from the Deux-Sèvres region, recruited during the Consulate and First Empire, and representative of conscripts from most French départements. How were these men recruited? What did they experience under the imperial eagles, and what was their daily life like, particularly through letters to their parents? Finally, for those fortunate enough to return from their campaigns across Europe, what might have been their future, and also their struggle to have their services recognized?
