Description

Located in Central Asia, Afghanistan is a mountainous country with high peaks and a history as chaotic as its geography.

This land of crossroads has always been dominated by powerful empires, from the Achaemenids of antiquity to the Mughals of the 16th century, all of whom have left behind remarkable archaeological evidence. Since the 18th century, Afghanistan has emerged with an identity of its own. From the 19th century onwards, international powers constantly interfered in its history, a situation which led in the 19th century to the Anglo-Afghan wars, then, over the last 50 years, to continuous wars, never won by the international powers. The intrusive role of the latter, both Soviet and American, and their lack of understanding of the situation are not unrelated to the creation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in August 2021.
