An abstract painter, Martine Le Bidan has turned her attention since 2017 to painting portraits that navigate between neo-expressionism, singular art, street art, and free figuration. Painting for her is a deeply instinctive act, but rarely impulsive. Before each canvas, she takes the time to sketch, to research, to let the shapes and figures come through. This preparatory moment is a space for listening, where emotions begin to take shape. Then, on canvas, the gesture frees itself. It remains guided by intuition, but is anchored in a sensitive structure. She paints to express what is difficult for her to put into words. Armelle Colombier was born in Paris in 1968, and artistic expression has been part of her life since she was a child. A multi-disciplinary artist, color, dreams and poetry can define some of her creations. She creates one-off pieces for utilitarian purposes or just for the pleasure of the eye. She works with the raku technique in a Western style, where graphics have their place. Color is always omnipresent. Sculpture and masks have become an increasingly important part of her creative process. Her sources of inspiration are manifold: the feminine world has its place, Africa's rich culture, painters, ceramists, nature, animals, anything that inspires an emotion in me, my experience, a desire to escape... For me, art is a source of inner travel, an imaginary world that I invent for myself, where childhood is never far away.
