Descriptif
"A life in music
Works by Gabriel Fauré
Yoan Héreau, piano
Victor Sicard, baritone
From May 4 to 10, 2024, the festival will present its 20th edition. To mark the occasion, we'll be embarking on a musical voyage around the world, following in the footsteps of Pierre Loti. This year, we'll be going to the Americas, North and South, to see how French music has influenced the musical production of countries across the Atlantic, and also how these cultures, far from our metropolis, have nourished the inspirations of our national authors and composers.
2024 will also mark the centenary of the death of a French composer of great importance to French chamber music, Gabriel Fauré.
This May 8 will be the occasion for a journey, too, but into the life of this composer who wrote music for 61 years! The difference in style in the composition of his melodies is so great, that it represents a challenge for the pianist and singer who will perform the composer's key works, from his first vocal composition to his last. Pianist Yoan Héreau and I will take up this challenge. Fauré was a man who constantly dreamed of travelling, and this recital will end with the last verse he set to music: "Car j'ai de grands départs, inassouvis, en moi" ("For I have great departures, unfulfilled, within me"). Did Pierre Loti, who traveled extensively and began his correspondence with Fauré with "Mon cher Maître" (My dear Master), satisfy all his desires for great departures?
