Cracheurs de feu - Ode à la mer
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
Legend has it that the poor, destitute inhabitants of the island of Oleron used to tie a lighted lantern to the neck of an angler whose feet were lightly shackled by a rope. Led ashore, the animal would swing the lantern, which from a distance appeared to be aboard a ship. Misled by the lantern, sailors who thought they were following a navigable passage were in fact heading straight for the shore. In the early hours of the morning, the "pirates" had only to go to the beach to retrieve their booty.
It's against the backdrop of this legend that the commune wishes to recount this tale of piracy, so dear to Oleron.
