Conférence UTL MO : Les cellules souches
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
Symbolically described in mythology, tissue regeneration was studied from the 18th century onwards by Abraham Trembley, who demonstrated the hydra's ability to reconstitute two whole organisms when cut in half. Since then, it has become apparent that many organisms, but not humans, are capable of regenerating a limb after injury. In humans, the first stem cells identified and used therapeutically were those from bone marrow. Recent years have seen a growing interest in stem cells, both from the point of view of basic research and the therapeutic hope they offer.
The aim of this conference is to present the different types of stem cells, and to shed light on advances in their use, potential and limitations.
