Conférence UTL MO : Dieux, devins et démons des Etrusques
Dates & opening times
Descriptif
The religion of the Etruscans, a people of pre-Roman Italy, has often been considered mysterious. We'll take a closer look at this idea of mystery with the help of the latest archaeological discoveries. The Etruscans had developed ways of communicating with the gods that were much admired by neighboring peoples. The Romans believed their neighbors to be "the most religious of men". They prided themselves on their ability to divine the will of the gods. They were said to be experts in the knowledge of rites and specialists in divination. Etruscan diviners consulted the sky and the entrails of sacrificial victims to ascertain the gods' intentions. Religion permeated the conception of time and space, the construction of cities, the distribution of land, the establishment of institutions and artistic production. The Etruscan people will be presented through their rites, priests and beliefs.
