After graduating from the Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1989, the young Franco-Swiss artist developed an approach inspired by land-art, minimalism and arte povera. She soon moved away from studio work to create large-scale ephemeral installations imbued with lightness and poetry.
Using a wide variety of materials, Marie-Hélène Richard's works are identifiable by their gentle confrontation of the artificial and the natural. Their spatial layout plays with weightlessness, seeming to stop time and surround the viewer. The artist's nomadic way of thinking raises questions about our relationship with nature, ecology and man's place in the landscape.
