Description

Three days to explore science fiction in all its forms: literature, film, astrophysics, and the arts. In partnership with Cinéma Eldorado, Marées de Lectures presents a three-part journey to examine our relationship with the future, humanity, and the cosmos.

July 29 — Jack Feret kicks off the series

The day begins at 11 a.m. at La Colo&Co with a book signing and discussions about the sci-fi universe of Jack Feret, a leading figure in French hard sci-fi.

In the afternoon, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., the public is invited to create and imagine during the “Atelier d’ExpressionS” led by Audrey—La Chouette Allumette, a participatory event exploring futuristic creativity. The workshop is limited to 12 people; registration is required.

In the evening, at the Eldorado Cinema, Jack Feret will lead a discussion with the audience about his literary work, as well as in connection with *2001: A Space Odyssey*. The conversation will cover ancient civilizations, superior intelligences, and the forces driving humanity’s evolution. A social gathering will be held before the 9:00 p.m. screening of *2001: A Space Odyssey* for those who wish to meet the author.

July 30 — *Interstellar*: Responsibility Toward the Future

The second evening begins at 8:00 p.m. with a fun sci-fi quiz combining sci-fi literature and cinema. This will be followed by a short presentation by Les Marées de Lectures, which will place *Interstellar* within a broader literary and cinematic context: how sci-fi sheds light on our contemporary crises and rekindles our sense of what is possible. The film screening serves as a reminder that science fiction is not an escape, but a mirror of our ecological and human responsibilities. At 9:00 p.m., Christopher Nolan’s film will be screened.

July 31 — Arrival and the Wonder of the Sky

To close out the series, starting at 8:00 p.m., astronomer Éric Chapelle, president of the Poitiers Society for Popular Astronomy, will lead an open discussion with the audience: how to communicate with a radically different form of intelligence, how to conceive of non-linear time, and how to embrace what lies beyond our usual frameworks. At 9:00 p.m., there will be a screening of Denis Villeneuve’s film. The evening concludes outdoors with stargazing, starting at 11:00 p.m., rekindling the sense of wonder and awe at what is beyond our grasp. This workshop is limited to 20 people; registration is available via Hello Asso or directly by email: mareesdelectures@gmail.com. The fee is 10 euros per person or accompanying adult; free for children.
