Stroll through the historic district of Grand-Village to discover traditional Oleron know-how and materials, curious architectural details and the way the village was organized in days gone by.



First, in Rue du Canton, a plaque decorates the façade of a tall house: L'abri du Résinier, a reference to a trade imported from the Landes region, which developed in the 19th century in Oleron with the growth of the national forest.

Continue along the rue des Chais, rue des Sauniers and the allée du cantonnier... many symbols of rural Oleron architecture can be seen here: attics served by an external staircase, wheelhouses protecting the corners of buildings, wells and querries, low houses...
