Fontaine Renaissance

At the heart of the historic district of Château-d'Oléron, the Renaissance fountain is undoubtedly one of the Château's "postcards". With its twisted columns and sculpted dolphins, it's a real eye-catcher.

Descriptif

In the Place du Château-d'Oléron, a richly sculpted fountain was built in 1851 by Jean Paillé, a journeyman stonecutter.

It is topped by a roof decorated with scales and foliage, supported by twisted columns. Each face features a panel with a finely decorated border. One panel features two water-spitting sea creatures wrapped around a trident, the symbol of Neptune.
