Château de La Gataudière / Parc Aventure la Gataudière
Descriptif
Château de La Gataudière was built on the outskirts of Marennes in 1749. Its owner, François Fresneau, was an engineer and botanist to King Louis XV. During a trip to French Guiana, he discovered the hevea tree - better known today as the rubber tree - which made him famous.
The spacious residence is built in the middle of a wooded park extending over twenty hectares.
At the end of the 18th century, one of his granddaughters, Anne-Marie Julie, inherited the family château and married François Chasseloup-Laubat. The Chasseloup-Laubat family still own the château today.
The château and terrace were listed by decree on March 3, 19491.
The park and the Louis XIV fountain have been listed as historic monuments since 1948, and the château's park has been included in the pre-inventory of remarkable gardens.
The château is not open to the public. Reception rooms can be rented all year round, particularly for weddings. The park is home to the Parc Aventure, offering a range of fun activities including accrobranche, paintball, bubble-foot, gellyball, karting, discgolf and an orienteering course. Activities open to children and adults aged 2 and over.
