Descriptif
Eleanor of Aquitaine is perhaps the most famous duchess and queen of the Middle Ages.
Between historical facts and legends, this woman of character left her mark on the history of Aquitaine and the kingdom of France, but also on the history of the island of Oleron. What if Eleanor wasn't who we thought she was?
The ghost of Eleanor of Aquitaine has chosen to appear in the church of Saint-Georges d'Oléron, every Wednesday evening this summer, to set the record straight on her life, and on the preconceived ideas that litter books, films and other representations of her person. It's an opportunity to revisit some of history's great events (her appointment as Duchess of Aquitaine, her marriages to 2 successive kings, the Crusades in the East, the wars, the Rôles d'Oléron...).
But also about the way of life: Eleanor's travels, the glittering court of Poitiers, her imprisonment, her life as mother and wife, the life of women in her time, dress, customs
customs, the characters she met, etc.).
An opportunity to rediscover a lively, colourful Eleanor, a woman of character, courageous but also sensitive, intimate and very aware of her condition as a woman despite her responsibilities.
A show for the whole family, with a touching, comical and funny Eleanor who doesn't mince her words! A fun way to revisit history.
