Descriptif

The sublime Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church was built in the early 18th century, under the watchful eye of engineer M. Ferry, Vauban's right-hand man and architect of the sumptuous citadel.

The building's impressive size and imposing sundial make it a real eye-catcher.

The bell tower, built in 1883 and rising to a height of 38 meters, features the biblical symbols of the four evangelists.

Built on a Latin cross plan, the church has a basket-handle vault. The choir features Louis XV-style woodwork and is dominated by an 18th-century altarpiece depicting the Assumption of Mary, which has been protected as a Monument Historique since 1984.
