Descriptif

This exhibition illustrates the diplomatic mission initiated by the French government to the Sultan of Morocco in 1889, in which Loti participated as historiographer.

Fascinated by the country, Loti absolved himself of the mission entrusted to him and wrote a novel, a respectful tribute to a tolerant and cultivated Islamic culture.

His novel was hailed by Henry de Montherlant as the best book on Morocco.
