The beaches

Marennes-Oléron has more than 100km of coast, much of which is home to our superb beaches. They share one common element – the quality of the seawater for swimmers. The Ile d’Oléron has many municipalities with the Blue Flag label, among them Le Grand-Village-Plage, Saint-Trojan-les-Bains, Dolus d'Oléron and Saint-Denis d'Oléron. The flag symbolises the exemplary management of waste and the general environment of beaches in these municipalities.

The very long West coast beach runs almost all the way from North to South. Thus, from Saint-Trojan-les-Bains to Vert-Bois, the beaches of Grande plage, Giraudière, Allassins and Vert-Bois are connected. With fine white sand, small dunes and waves when the tide is rising, these immense beaches are perfect for water sports and sliding sports or for a relaxing session of "farniente ". If you want to be on your own, walk for a few minutes to find peace and quiet.

A bit further North, next to the Remigeasse, a family beach, you will find Sables Vigner Beach, Domino Beach and Huttes Beach, an infamous surfing spot.

On the East coast, behind the sandy headland, you can find a calmer sea and fine sand at La Brée les Bains Beach and Saumonards Beach in Boyardville.

At the furthest point South of the island, Gatseau Beach which is bordered by a forest is a haven of tranquility. However, swimmers should be aware of the inshore strong currents.

As for the basin, the pleasant Marennes Beach is great for all generations as it provides family orientated activities.
