Marennes-Oléron with its various shades of lights and startling scenery, is a fantastic source of inspiration for artists and craftsmen alike.
With community and group dynamics in mind, over the past 6 years numerous local artists have set up shop in the coulourful oyster farming huts located on the charming harbour of Château-d'Oléron. Initiated by the Pôle des métiers d'art, a regional organization promoting arts and crafts, this incentive counts 20 artists housed in as many oyster huts.
Doors are open all year round. Feel free to come inside the studio/boutiques to browse. Discover inside each one a different world. The artists will happily advise you and explain how they work. In these enchanting wood huts you can find: basket work, calligraphy, ceramic sculptures, jewels, lamps. Traditional and contemporary works of great quality and diversity.
To further its support towards artists, Château d'Oléron's district is due to provide an artists residency in the near future. A nice addition to the existing 2 large exhibition rooms of the magnificient citadel.

"I moved in 4 years ago. I set up my studio/boutique where I make leather bags, belts, jewellery and more. I am also involved in "Couleurs Cabanes" an association of artists aiming to promote this site. I feel privileged to be here. This space is ideal for artists to work in.".
