At the nature conservation centre "Le Marais aux Oiseaux " in Dolus-d'Oléron, you can take a stroll while learning about the behaviour of owls.

There are plenty of attractions in the Marennes Basin also. Travel back in time in Saint-Just-Luzac walking along the Romanesque church and around the Château de Feusse. Or visit an ancient Gallo-Roman villa and the old Protestant cemetery.

If you are interested in local life, a hike through "Les Chemins des Saloches" in Le Gua is for you. This site at the heart of the marshes is ideal to witness landscape's diversity and discover the activities of the local people.

With its one storey houses and wooden huts on stilts, the streets of the old village of Bourcefranc-le-Chapus, a fishermen and oyster farmers village, lends itself to wonderful walks. Just follow "Le Chemin des Cabanes" and look around for the traditional boats (pinasses) which are tied to the huts stilts.
